How to read conflicting results
What if the tests disagree? Run at least three and look for the majority pattern. If two say warm and one says cool, you are warm. If your answers keep splitting evenly across three tests, that is not a failure - neutral is genuinely common, and an even split usually means you are neutral. Lighting conditions matter more than anything: if you completed a check under incandescent bulbs or warm LED lighting, redo it in natural daylight, which is the only light that reads undertone honestly.
Why undertone changes how foundation fits

The science behind the tests
Why do these checks work at all? Skin color comes from three pigments working together: melanin (brown), hemoglobin (the red of blood near the surface) and carotene (a yellow-orange pigment). The balance of red, yellow-orange and brown beneath the surface is what tilts your skin warm or cool, and it is set deep enough that a surface tan cannot change it.
