Reading down the columns, the pattern is clear: Springs are warm and clear, Summers cool and soft, Autumns warm and muted, Winters cool and bright. Value climbs from the Light seasons at the top of each family to the Deep ones. If two rows look close - Soft Summer and Soft Autumn, say - it's usually temperature that separates them, not chroma.
How to use these seasonal color palettes
Each palette on this page is a curated set of 12 colors chosen to flatter one of the 12 color seasons, plus a short list of colors to avoid. The palettes are grouped into four families. Spring palettes (Light, Warm and Bright Spring) are warm and clear - think coral, golden yellow and warm turquoise. Summer palettes (Light, True/Cool and Soft Summer) are cool and soft - dusty rose, periwinkle and slate. Autumn palettes (Soft, True and Deep Autumn) are warm and muted - olive, rust, mustard and teal. Winter palettes (Cool, Deep and True Winter) are cool and clear - true red, emerald, sapphire and icy pastels. If you sit between two seasons, hold both palettes to your face in daylight and keep the one that makes your skin look clearest.
What "colors to avoid" really means
Every season also has colors that work against it. They aren't ugly - they're just out of tune with your natural coloring, so they cast shadows, dull your skin or overwhelm your features. A Soft Summer in bright orange or a Deep Winter in dusty camel will look tired, even though those colors look great on someone else. Use your "avoid" shades far from your face (shoes, bags, trousers) if you love them, and keep the colors near your face inside your palette.
